SSI Surveillance by Swissnoso – Swiss national registry for the surveillance of postoperative wound infections

Based on a preexisting program in Western and Southern Switzerland, Swissnoso, in collaboration with the National Association for Quality Control in Hospitals and Clinics in Switzerland (ANQ), has designed a national registry to surveil surgical site infections (surgical wound infections) to prevent and control SSI's.

The registry records the rates of surgical site infection in the participating hospitals for 15 different types of intervention. It allows anonymous benchmarking between interventions, while adjusting for case mix. Results are published in annual, detailed, hospital-specific benchmarking reports, cantonal reports, and the national report.

The Swissnoso registry was started in June 2009 and currently includes data on more than 300,000 cases from 163 hospitals and departments.
